LADWP reviewed the Canter’s Deli accounts and found that electricity usage remained relatively stable year over year and was not the primary driver of the higher bills. Over the past three months, electric charges increased approximately 6.6%, while water charges increased 21.6% and sewer charges increased 45.0%, representing the most significant cost increases. Electricity usage remained essentially flat, although higher peak demand charges contributed to a modest increase in electric costs.
The substantial increases in water and related sewer charges may indicate a water leak or another source of elevated water consumption. LADWP has reached out to the customer and offered an in-person field investigation to assess both water and electric service, identify any potential leaks, unusual usage patterns, or efficiency opportunities, and provide recommendations on available water conservation and energy-efficiency incentives and programs. These resources can help reduce consumption, lower operating costs, and improve the business’s resilience against future increases in utility use and related charges.
