Conservation Needed During Peak Morning Hours
LOS ANGELES (October 12, 2026) — Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) is urging customers in the Pacific Palisades to conserve water during the early morning hours as water crews reach a critical stage in repairs to a leak in an air vacuum valve connected to the Westgate Trunk Line which serves the Pacific Palisades.
Water remains safe to drink, however, all Pacific Palisades residents and businesses are urged to conserve water for the next few days, especially during the morning hours of 4 A.M. to 8 A.M. when water use spikes as people get ready for school and work.
From 4 A.M. to 8 A.M., LADWP is calling on the community to:
- Turn off automatic irrigation systems and to refrain from watering lawns
- Turn off pool auto refill systems
- Limit showers to under five minutes
- Refrain from operating dishwashers and laundry machines
LADWP says conservation efforts on the part of the Pacific Palisades community will help LADWP crews balance the delicate work of maintaining water pressure while also prepping backup water supplies which includes pressurizing disinfecting pipes and taking water quality samples.
LADWP continues to coordinate with the Los Angeles Fire Department to ensure that additional water tenders are available and accessible in the area for firefighting purposes.
To support public safety around the work site, all eastbound lanes and one westbound lane of Sunset Boulevard between Allenford Avenue and Mandeville Canyon Road are closed. For everyone’s safety, cyclists, pedestrians, and motorists are urged to still avoid the area and use alternate routes.
10/23/26: Updated to clarify that the leak involved an air vacuum valve connected to the Westgate Trunk Line and not the 36-in Westgate Trunkline itself.
