LADWP Pipe Disinfection and Refilling Underway as Slurry Cures – 11AM, July 22, 2026

July 22, 2026

Crews will pour asphalt Wednesday, nearing reopening of Sunset Blvd.

LOS ANGELES, CA (July 22, 2026) – Work at the Sunset Boulevard pipe repair site continues as planned this morning as LADWP crews await slurry to finish the 24-hour curing period and the pipe is being disinfected. Asphalt is expected to be poured today, and at the same time chlorine will continue to treat the pipe and ensure it is free of any bacteria. If work progresses as planned, LADWP expects to finish repaving and reopening Sunset Boulevard later this week. The repaired pipeline will then be returned to service once water quality testing is complete.

The large diameter water pipe ruptured nearly a week ago Thursday, LADWP crews have performed complex work including pumping, repairing the 36-inch riveted steel pipe, welding the pipe, repressurizing and ensuring there are no leaks, flushing, disinfecting and water quality testing. Utility staff have also been responding to claims and community concerns while coordinating with the City of West Hollywood and other partner agencies.

LADWP continues to assure customers that water remains safe to drink and there are no service interruptions expected as this work approaches completion. Customers are still urged to conserve water to help avoid low-pressure periods during high demand.
