LOS ANGELES, CA (July 19, 2026) – LADWP crews continue to work diligently-day and night, through sweltering summer temperatures to ensure that full water service can be safely restored and streets reopened in West Hollywood. As essential repairs continue, LADWP has had 200 personnel activated to the response and remains committed to meeting three critical factors: confirming pipe integrity and pressure resistance with no leaks, adhering to all required standards, and delivering clean, safe water to the community.
Crews continue to pressure test the system to locate and address any leaks found in the existing sections of the 36-inch transmission line that ruptured in the early morning of July 16.
This restoration effort is a complex, multi-step process involving rigorous testing and technical expertise. Extensive procedures such as verifying pipe integrity, conducting thorough pressure and leak assessments, and confirming water quality are essential to guarantee the safety and reliability our customers expect. While these steps require considerable time and effort, our dedicated crews are working around the clock to complete each phase with precision. In some instances, there may not be any visible excavation or pipe repair occurring at the site of the pipe rupture, but staff remain actively working on the project by refilling, draining, chlorinating and performing other necessary tasks.
While repairs are expected to continue into the coming week, we recognize the ongoing challenges and disruptions this situation may have caused residents and businesses throughout West Hollywood. LADWP remains committed to completing pipe repairs and street restoration as soon as possible.
Sunset Blvd Trunkline Repair Timeline
The pipe is currently being refilled and pressure tested. During this process, crews are locating and sealing any leaks, ensuring that all repairs meet the highest safety and regulatory standards.
When the repairs are finalized, our water quality team will disinfect the pipe with chlorine and perform water‑quality testing to confirm full regulatory compliance. Once testing is complete, the water will be dechlorinated and safely released to the storm drain system.
The final step is to backfill the trench and repave the street using materials and standards required by the City of West Hollywood.
Water Service for Customers, Water Conservation
We assure LADWP customers in the area that their drinking water remains safe and reliable. Customers in the affected area are encouraged to conserve and use water efficiently during ongoing repairs. With the 36-inch transmission line undergoing repairs, our system is relying on alternate 8-inch distribution pipelines to supply the impacted area’s daily needs. As a result, residents-particularly those living on upper floors-may experience lower water pressure during peak demand.
If you encounter any water supply concerns, please call 1‑800‑DIAL‑DWP for immediate assistance. Your cooperation in conserving water helps ensure continued service for everyone in the community.
Street Closures & Public Safety
Sunset Boulevard remains closed between Sherbourne Drive and San Vicente Boulevard, with limited local access on nearby streets including Cynthia and San Vicente. For everyone’s safety, the public is urged to avoid the area and follow directions from local officials.
