Customers in Pacific Palisades are Urged to Conserve Water
LOS ANGELES (October 10, 2026) – The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) is currently responding to a water leak in Brentwood on Sunset Boulevard between Allenford Ave. and Mandeville Canyon Rd. The leak was first identified Friday afternoon, and water crews have been onsite working overnight to assess and isolate the issue.
The leak involves an air vacuum value connected to the Westgate Trunkline, which serves the westside portion of LADWP’s water service area, including the Pacific Palisades. Crews are continuing to assess the extent of the damage and implementing the necessary repairs. At this time, all customers served by the trunkline continue to have safe drinking water, and there are no service interruptions. However, LADWP is urging customers in the Pacific Palisades to conserve water to help maintain water pressure and ensure steady supplies while repairs are underway.
To ensure public safety around the work area, all eastbound lanes on Sunset Boulevard between Allenford Avenue and Mandeville Canyon Road are closed. Westbound lanes remain open until further notice. For everyone’s safety, cyclists, pedestrians, and motorists are urged to avoid the immediate area and use alternate routes.
While crews work on repairs along Sunset Boulevard, LADWP is also proactively preparing backup water supplies for the Pacific Palisades out of an abundance of caution. LADWP is closing the Temescal Canyon Trail where the recently installed backup drinking water pipe is installed, to allow for crews to run water pumps safely. Our goal is to maintain reliable water service and utilize all available measures to continue serving the community.
We are working in close coordination with the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) to ensure robust contingencies are in place for fire protection and emergency services throughout the duration of the incident.
We appreciate your patience and cooperation as we work to make repairs as quickly and safely as possible. Further updates will be shared on www.LADWPNews.com as new information becomes available.
10/23/26: Updated to clarify that the leak involved an air vacuum valve connected to the Westgate Trunk Line and not the 36-in Westgate Trunkline itself.
