Boil Water Notice Lifted in Affected Area of Koreatown on July 2, 2026

July 2, 2026

Drinking Water Declared Safe to Drink in the Two-Block Affected Area

Koreatown, Los Angeles (July 2, 2026) — Effective July 2, 2026, at 1 p.m. LADWP has confirmed that tap water is now safe to drink in the affected two-block area in Koreatown that was previously under the Boil Water Notice. The Boil Water Notice issued on June 30, 2026, has been lifted following rigorous testing and reporting of water quality results to the California Division of Drinking Water (CA-DDW).

The boundaries for the now-canceled Boil Water Notice are:

  • South Ardmore Avenue to the west
  • South Mariposa Avenue to the east
  • West 5th Street to the north
  • West 6th Street to the south

Affected customers may now resume regular use of tap water. No flushing of faucets or additional steps required before using and drinking water from the tap.

“We thank our customers for their patience and understanding as we collected, tested and retested our water samples to ensure that our water meets all state and federal drinking water standards,” said Jonathan Leung, LADWP’s Director of Water Quality. “We are pleased to tell our customers in the two-block affected area that their water is now confirmed safe to drink.”

The Boil Water Notice was issued out of an abundance of caution following routine water quality testing after samples collected from the testing station came back positive for Escherichia coli (E. coli) bacteria on Tuesday, June 30, 2026. The issue was isolated to a two-block area in Koreatown. Extensive testing confirmed that this incident was not in the distribution system pipe network but isolated to one water quality testing station in the area. The incident was not related to the warehouse fire in Boyle Heights, and no fire-related contaminants were found in the water samples.

With the cancellation of the Boil Water Notice, LADWP will discontinue all on-site bottled water distribution to affected customers starting 5 p.m. While water was safe to drink under the Boil Water Notice after first boiled according to instructions, LADWP provided bottled water to residents and businesses in the area for our customers’ convenience.

LADWP’s Water Quality Division, which includes its own water quality lab, conducts routine water quality collection, sampling, and testing. Each year, staff collect, test and report to water regulators results of 100,500 water samples from various points of the drinking water system. The lab tests for 240 constituents in the water and have regularly met and complied with all primary drinking water standards. Read the latest Drinking Water Quality Report for 2025.

LADWP appreciates the cooperation of customers who asked questions, heeded the boil water notice, and who are now again able to use their tap water for their daily needs including for drinking and cooking purposes, with no further instructions.
