LOS ANGELES — Power was restored to all customers in the Sawtelle/Westwood area of West Los Angeles shortly after 12 AM today. Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) electrical crews worked overnight to make permanent repairs to equipment at the local substation. All equipment has been tested and the station has returned to normal operating conditions.
At the peak on Saturday, about 6,320 customers experienced outages while LADWP crews worked to make permanent repairs to equipment at the substation, which lost power due to extreme heat conditions on Friday evening. While power was restored for most customers at 1:48 p.m. Saturday, the electrical equipment in the station was still overheating, and additional repairs were needed. Customers experienced intermittent outages Saturday afternoon and evening while these repairs were underway — a necessary safeguard to prevent the remaining cables and other equipment from being overloaded and failing, which would have triggered larger and longer lasting outages. We thank customers for their patience during this difficult situation. # # # |
