LOS ANGELES (January 16, 2020)–LADWP is proud to partner with the City’s Office of Finance and LA Sanitation (LASAN) to offer low-income assistance to customers in need. Low-income utility customers living in the City of Los Angeles benefit from LADWP’s low water and electric rates and can also participate in the City’s Lifeline rate discount program as well as LADWP’s Low Income Discount Program, which provides a discount for power, water, sewer and bulky item pickup. Together, these programs provide over $70 million in rate assistance to qualified customers each year.
LADWP alone has nearly 200,000 customers enrolled in the program and actively screens over 296,000 new customers each year as they sign up for service, in addition to reaching new customers through social media, our customer service centers and through local advertising. We have also partnered with non-profits to improve outreach, including through Cal State Northridge’s VITA free tax-preparation clinics, where low-income customers learn more about the program and can sign-up. We have a Low-Income assistance team dedicated to prioritizing the needs of low-income customers and developing new ways to reach eligible participants for all of our customer programs, including money-saving energy efficiency, water conservation, electric vehicle rebate programs that all help our customers save even more on their water and electric bills. We also track these activities through LADWP’s innovative Equity Metrics Initiative.
We are committed to continuing to work with our partners at the City’s Office of Finance and LASAN to further our outreach efforts within the constraints of California’s complex legal framework for public utilities to operate low-income assistance programs.
We encourage any customer who would like more information and to determine if they are eligible for these valuable money-saving low-income discount programs to visit www.ladwp.com/lowincome or call 1-800-DIAL-DWP.
