The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) is committed to providing reliable, high quality electric service to the residents and businesses of Los Angeles. LADWP routinely schedules power generation from a variety of energy resources to accommodate scheduled outages for maintenance, or adjust to fluctuations in solar and wind power. Just as we schedule power generation every day to meet our customers’ needs, LADWP power operators have planned for the dip in solar energy due to the forecasted solar eclipse on Monday, August 21, 2017. LADWP has taken steps to ensure that it has sufficient energy resources to maintain reliable electric service to our customers throughout the day, just as our operators do every day. Even when the solar power does drop, LADWP has more than enough clean, hydropower to replace it from Castaic Pump Storage Power Plant and the Hoover Dam Power Plant. Combined, these plants have more than double the amount of anticipated loss of power due to the eclipse.
