Statement by LADWP Regarding Explosion in Hyde Park Neighborhood Street on September 6, 2017

On Wednesday September 6, 2017, an explosion of a vault was reported at the area of 63rd Street and Brynhurst Avenue in the Hyde Park neighborhood. After the scene was secured and access to the affected vault was allowed by LAFD, LADWP crews conducted an assessment of the area impacted by the explosion. An initial inspection of the department’s 138kV cable on the Fairfax – Gramercy Line 1 and Line 2, found NO evidence that an electrical event or disruption to the electrical service through the cables had occurred.
LADWP crews and LADWP Engineering personnel are continuing their inspection of the circuits and will continue to work with LAFD and SoCal Gas as the investigation into the cause of the explosion continues.
