What is the current outage response time?
LADWP is at the highest response possible level— as of Sunday, September 8, 2024, at 10:30 a.m., meaning that customers experiencing an outage can expect that it may take longer than 24 hours for a crew to respond to your electric service outage. This is necessary due to the high number of smaller outages and is meant to help set expectations for our customers that reflect operating conditions and response times.
Be assured that we are utilizing all available resources to support our restoration efforts at this time. Our crews have been working around the clock since the heat storm began on Thursday, September 5, and they continue to prioritize the restoration of longer-duration outages as well as large circuit outages.
How can I get a more specific restoration time?
The restoration time for outages can vary depending on the size and complexity of the outage and field conditions, which can change from moment to moment. Field conditions can also change drastically moment to moment, as crews investigate and determine the possible causes to restore power. As outage responses extend beyond original estimates, we will contact customers directly.
Why has a crew been dispatched to service a nearby service area while my address has still not been helped?
Currently, we are prioritizing the outages with the longest duration – customers who have been without electric service the longest. We also have a high number of small outages across the city, exceeding the number of crews available to respond. We are utilizing all available crews and resources to restore services as quickly and safely as possible.
Why don’t I see the outage affecting me on LADWP’s Power Outage Map?
It is possible that the area experiencing an outage may not have been reported. Also, to protect customer safety and privacy, we do not post the location of outages affecting only one customer. Please remember report outages directly at 1-800-DIAL-DWP or at www.ladwp.com/outages. If your power is out, please report it.
LADWP’s Power Outage Map indicates that crews have not been assigned to the outage affecting me. Why hasn’t a crew been assigned? When will they be assigned?
While LADWP has a dedicated team working around the clock to restore power to all affected customers, large-scale outages can require more personnel than are available at any one time, leading to longer response times. We are utilizing all available resources to support our restoration efforts at this time.
What should I do if I need power for my medical devices, but am experiencing an outage?
Your safety is our top priority. LADWP reminds our customers who rely on life-saving devices powered by electricity that if you are experiencing a power outage and without backup power supply, seek immediate medical attention by calling call 9-1-1. Please make sure to call emergency services if you are in need of medical assistance.
Why is LADWP’s electrical equipment unable to withstand the heat?
During heat storms with extremely high temperatures, including very high overnight temperatures, our electric equipment can overload and overheat when it doesn’t have the ability to cool down overnight. Multi-day heatwaves with continuous overnight heat stress our system. The outages we are experiencing during this heat storm are mainly overloaded cables, overheated equipment, and transformers.
What should I do if my perishable food spoils or I need to make hotel accommodations for myself during a long power outage?
