LOS ANGELES — With Daylight Saving Time beginning at 2:00 a.m. on Sunday, March 9, 2014, the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) reminds customers to “spring forward” and reset timers one hour ahead.

Automatic sprinklers, lighting timers and programmable thermostats are among the devices controlling water and power use that should be adjusted for the time change.

The City of Los Angeles is currently under mandatory water conservation, which restricts outdoor watering hours to before 9:00 a.m. and after 4:00 p.m. Customers should note the change in time and adjust their sprinkler timers accordingly.

LADWP encourages customers to reset lighting timers to turn on only after daylight hours and to remain lit only as long as is necessary. Energy efficient LED light bulbs are recommended for installation wherever possible. It is also a good idea to unplug all electronics when they are not in use to prevent these “energy vampires” from adding to unnecessary power use.

The time change is a valuable opportunity for LADWP customers to review energy and water routines at home and in the workplace to seek out ways to conserve. Using energy and water wisely will help conserve these precious resources as well as help reduce your utility bill.
