UPDATED AT August 19, 2020: 9 p.m.: Echo Park/Westlake/Silver Lake outage restored.
LOS ANGELES (August 19, 2020)–LADWP crews are working to resolve an equipment problem at the Distributing Station serving the Echo Park/Westlake/Silver Lake neighborhoods, just west of Downtown LA. While crews make repairs, power interruptions and outages in these neighborhoods may occur.
Be assured that our staff are working as quickly and safely as possible to resolve the problem caused by extreme heat and electricity demand that occurred yesterday afternoon when temperatures soared above 100 degrees and equipment was damaged after it became overheated and overloaded.
The estimated completion and full restoration time is 7pm tonight.
Local Distributing Stations are part of LADWP’s power system and are facilities where higher voltage electricity is fed to lower voltage circuits through cables, wires and large transformer banks that power homes and small businesses in a local community.
We will provide further updates as the repairs progress.
We very much appreciate our customers’ patience as we work to make these repairs.
