One-Hour TV Program on the 2016 LADWP Science Bowl To Air

LOS ANGELES — An hour-long TV program showcasing the talents, hard work and knowledge of the city’s brightest high school students will be broadcast beginning Monday, March 21 running through April. The program will also be available online also beginning March 21 on LADWP’s YouTube Channel, LA CityView’s streaming video and LA CityViews On-Demand Library. The program provides complete coverage of the semi-final match between Los Angeles Center for Enriched Studies and El Camino Real Charter High School. The show also covers the complete final match between Los Angeles Center of Enriched Studies and North Hollywood High School. These two matches determine the Regional Champion. The winning regional championship team will represent Los Angeles at the U.S. Department of Energy Office of Science National Science Bowl, April 28 to May 2 in Washington DC. The U.S. Department of Energy funds the team’s travel and lodging expenses. In addition, the program also shows a segment on the hands-on competition this year involving teams constructing a miniature catapault and launching a projectile to a target. The show includes interviews with participating students, coaches and the LADWP education program manager. The hour-long show is hosted by Ch. 35’s Gil Reyes with color commentary provided by Dr. Adam Diament, an alumnus LADWP Science Bowl participant, who was on the winning regional championship team from Venice High School in 1993. Dr. Diament went on to earn a doctorate in genetics and a law degree.

The LADWP Science Bowl is one of 70 high school regional competitions in 40 states that participate in the National Science Bowl Program. This regional competition covers the Los Angeles Unified School District boundaries but includes charter, private and parochial schools in addition to those that are LAUSD schools. | |
