Forty-seven teams from 26 schools practice answering challenging college-level math, science and technology questions posted by moderators in preparation for the upcoming regional competition on Saturday, February 22, 2020.
The scrimmage offers a chance for Science Bowl participants to experience what February’s regional competition will be like– the chance to test out buzzers, practice answering questions, and scope out the competition–without the high stakes.
The winning team at the regional competition will represent the City and Region at the U.S. Department of Energy Office of Science National Science Bowl in Washington, DC, April 30-May 4, 2020.
LADWP regional championship teams have won four national titles and placed among the top five teams 13 times. Science Bowl showcases the talents, skills and abilities of some of the city’s best high school science scholars. Last year North Hollywood High School placed third and in 2018 second at the National Science Bowl.
LADWP Science Bowl is one of nine regional competitions in California and 65 nationwide at the high school level. Since the program began in 1991, more than 250,000 students have participated in this program nationally including about 9,000 students at the high school level and another 4,000 at the middle school level this year. LADWP Science Bowl covers the geographic area of the Los Angeles Unified School District and includes public, charter, private and parochial schools.
