Teams answer challenging college-level math, science and technology questions in game show format competition. Afternoon involves Round Robin Buzzer Competition and Hands-On Competition.
A total of $25,000 in scholarships and prizes will be awarded. The winning team will represent the City and Region at the U.S. Department of Energy Office of Science National Science Bowl in Washington, DC, April 30-May 4, 2020.
LADWP regional championship teams have won four national titles and placed among the top five teams 13 times. Last year North Hollywood High School placed third at the National Science Bowl for the fifth time; after placing second in 2018.
Science Bowl showcases the talents, skills and abilities of some of the city’s best high school science scholars. LADWP Science Bowl is one of nine regional competitions in California and 65 nationwide at the high school level.
Since the program began in 1991 more than 305,000 students have participated in this program from throughout the U.S. This year about 9,000 students will participate at the high school level and another 5,000 at the middle school level in one of 115 regions.
LADWP Science Bowl covers the geographic area of the Los Angeles Unified School District and includes public, charter, private and parochial schools.
