The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) and the City of Los Angeles Department of Aging are partnering on another Cool LA Heat Relief for Seniors event in Lincoln Heights at the Lincoln Park Senior Citizen Center on Monday, September 9. Portable room air conditioner units will be distributed free of charge to qualified LADWP customers ages 60 and over who RSVP’d for the event and pre-qualified for the giveaway. Supplies are limited and qualifications for the giveaway are detailed below. Guests will be able to sign up for utility financial assistance programs, learn about LADWP jobs, hear from local officials, and enjoy refreshments. Learn more at www.LADWP.com/HeatRelief2024.

Los Angeles seniors gather at the Lincoln Park Senior Citizen Center to learn about LADWP financial assistance programs, energy efficiency and water conservation rebates, and other money-saving programs. LADWP customers age 60+ who qualified for the giveaway will receive free portable room air conditioner units that will be distributed just outside the center, while supplies last. Approved customers will pick up the air conditioners via a drive-through style line in the parking lot.
BACKGROUND
Requirements for the air conditioner giveaway:
LADWP is giving away free portable air conditioners to LADWP customers who meet these requirements:
- RSVP required at LADWP.com/HeatRelief2024 or by calling (213) 367-9016. NOTE: At the time of this media advisory, the event is at full capacity and event registration is closed.
- 60+ years old (bring proof of age)
- Have an LADWP customer account in your name
- Enrolled in or qualified to enroll in LADWP’s EZ-SAVE or Lifeline discount programs. Those not currently enrolled in EZ-SAVE who qualify can enroll on-site at the event.
Air conditioners are available while supplies last on a first-come, first-served basis. Qualifying customers must attend the event in order to receive the A/C unit. One A/C unit per LADWP account.

- Government-issued ID showing your name and date of birth
- Your LADWP bill
As Los Angeles-area temperatures rise, LADWP has been working with the Los Angeles Department of Aging to host “Cool LA Heat Relief for Seniors” events. The event series is part of LADWP’s Cool LA program, which helps customers better manage the impacts of extreme heat – especially older adults, income-qualified individuals and families, and those living in underserved communities. Extreme heat endangers the health and well-being of Angelenos living in “heat islands” – areas where the average temperature is hotter than surrounding regions.
