Main Break Update – 1:00 p.m.Van Nuys Blvd. & Sherman Way |
LOS ANGELES — LADWP crews continue working to shut off the water main on Sherman Way near Van Nuys Blvd. Water flow has been diminished significantly and full shut-down is expected shortly.
A break that occurred on an 8-inch connector pipe is the source of the leak that occurred this morning at 10:42 a.m. The fitting taps into a 54-inch ductile iron pipe used to convey recycled water. It does not appear the 54-inch pipe sustained any direct damage. Recycled water is treated and purified water that is used for irrigation and industrial purposes. Recycled water is of very high quality however it is not used directly for drinking water. Non-potable recycled water goes through a separate pipeline system, known as “purple pipe,” to customers. It is completely separate from LADWP’s drinking water pipeline system. Regular water service to LADWP customers has not been interrupted. No damage to area structures has been reported. Local businesses remain open. Eastbound traffic along Sherman Way is currently closed. Two westbound lanes on Sherman Way are open, as are all lanes on Van Nuys Blvd. Additional information will be posted at www.ladwpnews.com as it becomes available. ### |
