Groups, Individuals Invited to Visit Exhibits, Living Labs and Case Study Home
with Focus on Sustainability
Los Angeles, CA (June 3, 2019) – Los Angeles Department of Water and Power’s (LADWP) La Kretz Innovation Campus is extending an open invitation to the community to tour the campus and learn how LADWP is leading by example to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and dependency on imported water. The Customer Engagement and Sustainable Living Labs at the La Kretz Innovation Campus showcase what LADWP is doing to be more sustainable and to create an inclusive green economy.
Developed with a commitment to sustainability, the La Kretz Innovation Campus is a living lab for new and emerging technologies, from electric vehicle chargers, rooftop solar panels, the cool pavement and micro-mobility pilots, and the storm water capture in the parking lot, to the microgrid that powers the facility. The campus also features the Customer Engagement and Sustainable Living Labs, an interactive exhibit space that showcases appliances and fixtures for visitors interested in learning about the latest in water and energy efficiency. The exhibits and interactive stations also highlight some of the things visitors can do at home and at work to be more sustainable to help fulfill the goals outlined in Mayor Garcetti’s Green New Deal Sustainable City pLAn.
Those interested in getting a first-hand look at the campus can sign up for a tour that includes:
- An overview of the building’s LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) and WELL Building Standard® features
- LADWP’s interactive exhibits
- The Los Angeles Cleantech Incubator and its collaborative work and office space
- The renowned Advanced Prototyping Center
- Art Exhibits
- Arts District Park
There are two types of tours, group or individual, being offered at the campus. Parties of five to 25 can sign up for a 75-minute group tour on Mondays at 3:00 PM, Wednesdays at 10:00 AM and on the first Tuesday of the month at 6:30 PM. Individuals wanting to tour the campus can join the weekly, 60-minute tour that is held each Friday at 12:00 PM. Reservations are first come, first served and tours are not conducted on holidays.
“It is our hope that these exhibits, focused on applying sustainability in all areas of our daily lives, will have a lasting impact on the way our customers and their children look at our resources and our environment,” said David H. Wright, LADWP’s General Manager. “In particular, we want to teach future generations that our natural resources are not infinite and must be cared for and managed effectively and efficiently so that we can continue to thrive as a city. We know that the La Kretz Innovation Campus will help in that effort through science education and exploration.”
LADWP’s La Kretz Innovation Campus has been credited with helping add green jobs to LA’s economy and incubating 78 cleantech startup companies since it opened its doors in 2015. The campus has also been host to frequent sustainability events and forums.
The La Kretz Innovation Campus is located at 525 S. Hewitt Street, Los Angeles and is easily accessible via LADOT’s DASH “A” bus Downtown.
