LOS ANGELES, CA (November 14, 2024) — The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) is inviting eligible nonprofits and public agencies within the Harbor and Valley communities to apply for its Community Emission Grants Program (CERGP). The CERGP provides awarded applicants up to $500,000 in funding to support innovative projects aimed at reducing emissions and enhancing air quality in Los Angeles communities most impacted by pollution. The CERGP is dedicated to helping organizations achieve environmental health improvements and sustainable development.
“LADWP is committed to fostering a cleaner, healthier, future for all Angelenos, and our Community Emission Grants Program is a critical part of this mission,” said Janisse Quiñones, LADWP CEO and Chief Engineer. “By supporting local organizations in their efforts to reduce emissions, we are not only improving air quality but also strengthening our communities.”
CERGP applications are open to 501(c)3 nonprofit organizations in good standing with a minimum of three years of service in the City of Los Angeles, and public or regulatory agencies. Funding is awarded on a competitive basis to applicants with strong and dynamic proposals for emission reduction projects benefitting Council District 2, 6, 7, or 15. The deadline to apply is Friday, December 13, 2024.
LA Compost, a non-profit operating as Southern California’s largest community composting organization, was awarded a CERGP grant in 2023. LA Compost used the grant funds to transition to electric vehicles, infrastructure, and equipment. By integrating solar-powered systems into their daily operations, LA Compost has reduced emissions in their community and increased their local compost production capacity by 200%.
As the largest municipal utility in the nation, LADWP is committed to providing reliable and sustainable resources to the City of Los Angeles. Through programs like CERGP, LADWP supports community health and green initiatives by investing in projects and programs that achieve these objectives.
Interested applicants are required to submit an application, along with a detailed work plan outlining the proposed project’s goals, timeline, projected emission savings, and estimated costs.
