LOS ANGELES (July 14, 2017) – The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) will be helping customers keep cool and save money this summer with the launch of a new energy-efficiency initiative. The Window Air Conditioner Recycling Program will kick off with the Department giving away free window air conditioners to the first 50 qualified customers who recycle their old A/C units. Recycling an old A/C can save customers up to *$240 a year in cooling costs. The recycling drop-off event will take place behind LADWP Headquarters located at 111 N. Hope Street, Los Angeles, CA 90012 on Saturday, July 15 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. (Follow the signs to enter on Dewap Road from W. 1st Street)
Once the supply of free A/C units is depleted, customers can still receive a $25 rebate gift card, energy-efficiency goody bag and items for the kids, on-the-spot, when they recycle their old A/C clunkers. The gift card can, in turn, be combined with other LADWP rebates towards the purchase of a new, modern, energy-efficient unit.
LADWP believes in promoting energy-efficiency programs for all customers with the intent to make the overall grid much more resilient and to help customers save on their cooling costs. By the year 2020, energy efficiency will comprise 15 percent of LADWP’s future power supply, up from the current 9 percent. Energy efficiency will be a key factor in eliminating coal and making Los Angeles one of the most sustainable cities in the world.
