Inyo County, CA (March 25, 2025) – For the sixth consecutive year, the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) has partnered with the Inyo County Office of Education (ICOE) to award Career and Technical Education (CTE) scholarships to graduating high school students in Inyo County. The CTE scholarship aims to bridge the gap between education and career opportunities in technical fields, including welding, information technology, auto mechanics, woodworking, and technical engineering.
In recognition of the increasing demand for skilled labor and the need for specialized tradespeople, the CTE scholarship helps local students pursue education and training in fields that are vital to the region’s economy. This year, five outstanding recipients will receive a $5,000 scholarship to support their studies, covering the rising costs of educational materials, tools, and tuition.
“I’m so appreciative of the Inyo County Office of Education and the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power for working together to create these CTE Scholarships,” said Inyo County 4th District Supervisor Jen Roser. “Providing opportunities for students to pursue education, training, and a livelihood in the trades couldn’t be more honorable, particularly at a time in both our Nation and our Eastern Sierra region, where those skilled in the trades are increasingly in demand, and a career in the trades not only provides pride in workmanship and accomplishment but an ability to earn a living that provides for family, homeownership, and quality of life while filling a vital need.”
“We hope these scholarships will empower students to pursue their passions, unlock career opportunities and contribute to a skilled workforce, ultimately driving innovation and economic progress in our communities,” said Janisse Quiñones, LADWP Chief Executive Officer and Chief Engineer.
LADWP is committed to fostering the next generation of skilled workers by offering over 25 Career and Technical Education-related entry-level positions across various fields. Additionally, every year LADWP hosts graduating seniors during their Student Worker Program. These positions offer students a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience and contribute to the development of vital community infrastructure.
Qualified applicants should apply by April 25, 2025. Click here for details and to apply.
