LADWP Offers Free EV Parking While Charging at Downtown Headquarters

Utility Responds to Growing Demand for Vehicle Power Stations
LOS ANGELES — The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power is now offering free electric vehicle (EV) chargers at the John Ferraro Building (JFB) at 111 N. Hope Street in downtown Los Angeles, helping to promote the increasingly popular, more environmentally friendly alternative to gas powered vehicles. The EV charging service and parking at the LADWP headquarters are available from Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Open to both employees and the general public, the LADWP EV charging stations are accessible through the JFB Gate 6 parking lot entrance on Hope Street. Each EV may plug in and park for up to four hours at a time; regular parking rates of up to $21 per day apply after the strictly-enforced charging period expires. Nine charging units are currently available at the building.

The service is provided as part of LADWP’s larger effort to build out the electrical infrastructure to support the EV market in Los Angeles. The Department recently upgraded more than 120 charging stations in City facilities, and is also offering residential customers reimbursements of up to $2,000 per household to install an EV charger at home through the Charge Up, L.A.! program. Since May 2011, the LADWP has granted approximately $845,000 in rebates to more than 430 customers.
