LOS ANGELES (May 18, 2018) – The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) has been recognized as one of the top employers in America by Forbes magazine. LADWP was ranked No. 229 in the country on the “America’s Best Employers 2018” list, and No. 8 out of 25 in the Government Services category. Published just this month, the annual ranking was based on data from 30,000 American employees and focused on large companies (more than 5,000 employees).
“Having an outstanding work culture has always been a hallmark of our organization. We want all of our employees to work in an environment that provides the support and opportunities they need to achieve excellence,” said David H. Wright, LADWP General Manager. “We are proud that LADWP’s tradition of valuing our team members is recognized nationally and across different industries, especially as our workforce ages and we accelerate hiring to train the next generation of employees.”
LADWP is approximately 10,000 employees strong and has a diverse workforce that provides water and power services to the 4 million residents and businesses in the City of Los Angeles. The municipal utility is the largest in the nation. To help fulfill its commitment to excellent customer service, and provide safe, reliable and cost-effective water and power to customers, LADWP employs frontline skilled craft employees, professional engineers, accountants, information technology professionals, customer services representatives and many other skilled and professional staff. LADWP also offers competitive salaries and benefits to its employees.
Forbes partnered with analytics firm Statista to conduct an anonymous, online survey of mostly full-time employees who work at large firms or institutions operating in the U.S. Participants were asked to rate their willingness to recommend their employer to friends and family on a scale of 0 to 10. In addition, respondents were asked to provide either positive or negative recommendations for other employers in their respective industries.
Scores were then combined and the top 500 companies, representing 25 different business sectors, were highlighted. LADWP is one of three Los Angeles-based winners in the Government Services category, along with County of Los Angeles, No. 133, and Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, No. 363.
