LADWP’s Water System crews have shut down the leak resulting from a water main break in South LA at East 55th Street and Towne Avenue that occurred at approximately 5:00 a.m. The shut-down process for the 24-inch diameter pipe had to be done carefully so as to not damage other pipes in the area. Seventy-five customers are currently without water. Crews are working as quickly and safely as possible to get water restored to those customers. LADWP is working with other city agencies to reroute traffic in the area. 55th Street and 56th street between Main and Avalon are currently closed to traffic. The leak has caused property damage in the area, which will be assessed by on-site claim agents.
