Inyo County is excited to announce the launch of Genasys Protect™ (Genasys), a new system designed to improve preparedness and emergency response planning. The community is encouraged to register for Genasys to receive real-time, location-based information and notifications during severe weather and emergency events.
Genasys went live on October 17 and will replace CodeRED as the primary communication tool for emergency alerts in Inyo County. The system includes two main components, Genasys ALERT and Genasys EVAC, that together will enhance the County’s ability to manage evacuations, provide infrastructure updates, and deliver critical information – such as the location of shelters, sandbags, and evacuation centers – during floods, fires, earthquakes, and other public safety threats.
Residents can sign up at ready.inyocounty.us to receive alerts based on their location or other provided addresses. Customization options allow residents to prioritize alerts, select the preferred language (English or Spanish), and select the preferred delivery method (text/SMS, email, voice calls, or the mobile app) to ensure timely delivery of critical information. Through the Genasys mobile app and protect.genasys.com, residents can also use the search bar and zone map to access evacuation information specific to their area. This tool provides real-time situational awareness and location-based updates for the user’s own area or any other user-selected geographic zones. The Genasys app is available for download on both Apple and Android devices. It includes all the website features, plus the ability to follow specific zones for push notifications on status changes.
“Inyo County is dedicated to ensuring our residents are promptly informed about emergencies,” said Assistant Sheriff Tim Bachman. “Genasys enhances our ability to deliver real-time updates and detailed, zone-specific information, allowing us to better support our community in making timely and informed decisions during critical situations.”
Tips to Get Started:
- Sign up for emergency alerts at inyocounty.us.
- Visit genasys.com to find your zone.
- Write down your zone name and post it in a convenient location. This will help you quickly identify changes to your zone’s status during an emergency.
To enhance targeting and messaging, residents should provide their home addresses during registration. Genasys allows users to add multiple addresses, such as home and work, and include several phone numbers to also keep their loved ones informed during emergencies.
Anyone who would like to sign up but is unable to do so online is welcome to contact Inyo County Emergency Management for assistance at (760) 878-0120.
