East Los Angeles Commercial Power Outage |
At approximately 10:00 a.m. today an underground vault switch located on Alcazar Street near the University of Southern California (USC) Medical Center experienced a failure resulting in a power outage impacting multiple commercial customers in the surrounding area. Initial reports indicate that impacted customers include portions of the USC Medical Campus and adjacent commercial customers and facilities. No residential customers have been impacted.
Crews are working to reroute power to restore service as quickly as possible to as many customers as they can, but some buildings likely will remain without service through the afternoon. Backup generators in some of the facilities are currently switched on and providing electricity to the buildings.
Los Angeles Department of Water and Power crews are on site working to assess damage to the vault and begin work to restore power to the affected customers. Crews expect power to be fully restored to the area by this evening. However, this estimate may change depending on the extent of damage and needed repairs.
We will continue to post updates as progress is made until service is fully restored.
