August 28, 2023 (LOS ANGELES) — LADWP’s Cool LA $225 air conditioner rebates for income-qualified customers are back and in hot demand. From May 2023 to now, more than 3,600 customers have purchased 4,297 new air conditioners (ACs) through LADWP’s Cool LA Marketplace, where customers receive instant rebates at the time of purchase, dramatically reducing the costs of new portable, window, and wall air conditioners. The more than 4,200 AC units purchased so far this summer has already outpaced the total number rebated last year. In all, this year, LADWP has issued a total of $913,434 in AC rebates to help customers overcome the health risks associated with extreme heat.
“Cool LA helps Angelenos beat the heat and stay safe,” said LADWP Board President Cynthia McClain-Hill. “With more heat waves ahead this summer, Cool LA’s increased rebates are here to help our customers and their families stay safe by making available free to low-cost air conditioning units.”
Cool LA makes buying an energy-saving AC easy and affordable. For instant rebates, customers can visit ladwp.com/Cool-LA, “Shop Marketplace,” add their items to cart, verify eligibility, receive the instant rebate, and check out.
To receive the instant $225 AC rebate, eligible customers must have an active LADWP residential electric account and need to be a participant in one of the following programs: EZ-Save Program, Senior Citizen/Disability Lifeline Rate, Life-Support Equipment Discount, Physician Certified Allowance Discount.
The increased rebates under the Cool LA initiative is a fourfold increase from previous years’ $50 rebate, applicable on various types of qualifying air conditioners – ranging from portable ACs to window and wall ACs.
Interested customers who are not eligible for Cool LA’s $225 instant AC rebate will receive a $75 rebate when they purchase an air conditioner at marketplace.ladwp.com.
LADWP also continues to promote its new Level Pay program as part of Cool LA. Level Pay monthly billing helps customers manage their utility costs by smoothing out seasonal highs typically experienced during the hot summer months across 12 monthly bills for easy budgeting and making home cooling easier to manage. To sign up for Level Pay, customers should call 1-800-DIAL-DWP and speak with a customer service representative.
“We don’t want anyone to go without air conditioning during the hot summer months or avoid using their AC because they are concerned about the bill they will receive from LADWP. Level Pay is designed to help our customers spread out the cost of summer cooling, helping to make our communities healthier and safer,” said Martin L. Adams, General Manager and Chief Engineer of LADWP.
